2015 Session 39: Jeremiah Rated ®

In this session, Dr. Nunnally directs our attention to a class of sexual imagery featured prominently in the Bible. From the “harlotry” of Israel (Jeremiah 2:20), to the “bride adorned for her husband” (Revelation 21:2), holy scripture makes inferential comparisons that make us uncomfortable: strong language, strong meaning. There can be little doubt that the Heavenly Father sees our tendencies to waywardness in stark terms.

Jeremiah 2:20; 3:1-2 17:2; Ezekiel 16: 2; 23:1-27,, 40-49; Kings 23:10; Matthew 25:1-13; Hosea 1::2; 2:2-3; 4:11-15

2015 Session 16: We, the Anointed Ones

In today’s session Dr. Nunnally examines Jeremiah 2, which he describes as being similar to a court case where God serves as prosecutor. The defendant is Israel, God’s chosen people. “‘Did I do something to you?’ asks God. “You left me.'” The rhetorical form adopted in chapter 2 is that of a “revel,” a court case. Tracking scripture we see God reminding Israel of His bestowment of  blessings enjoyed by the nation, the unfaithfulness of Israel, failure of leadership and Israel’s miserable preference for other Gods. Having made His contentions,  God described the consequences: enslavement.

2015 Session: 4: How God Speaks

“Don’t receive the grace of God in vain.” In today’s class we continue with a discussion of Christ as a “sin offering.” This is a great mystery, but one that can be explored through scripture. An offshoot of the discussion took up the interesting transaction of “how God speaks.”

2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 3:25; Romans 4:25; Romans 8:3; Galatians 3:13; Numbers 12:4-8; Jeremiah 2

Homework: Isaiah 54:5; 62:5; Ezekiel 16:8; Hosea 2:14-20; 3:1, Revelation 19
