2016 Session 4: Salvation is Free – Sanctification Involves Work

In this session, Dr. Nunnally considers the tricky issue of covenantal responsibility. We are saved by grace, but if we love Jesus Christ, we keep His commandments. Salvation is a gift from God, but our side of the covenant involves “working out our salvation in fear and trembling.”

2013 Session 34: Works and Grace

In today’s session, Dr. Nunnally takes up an issue that can be confusing.  We are saved by grace. Salvation is a gift from God, and not a status we earn through good behavior, performance of a ritual or mandated task. And while most Christians understand that our gift from God is not something we’ve earned, we are expected to serve God through our works. Whether feeding the poor, attending the sick or pursuing justice, our salvation directly links to tangible work. “How can we perform deep covenantal responsibilities, and yet reconcile those responsibilities to the notion: my yoke is easy and my burden is light?”

2013 Session 26: Synergism

This week Dr. Nunnally addresses the partnership between God and His human creation. God provides the call, the grace and power to achieve that calling; we are tasked with merely presenting ourselves as His servants. We are — to a degree — passive in the effort; God does the “heavy lifting.
