2013 Session 35: Thanksgiving

“When we look back to Thanksgiving, we often look back to the Pilgrims, rather than the thanksgiving that is mentioned in scripture. … We should not allow our thanksgiving to stop at food, and family, and friends, and our jobs. And in the book of Ephesians, Paul does exactly that. He goes to the same place that the Puritan fathers went with their celebration.  Today, we’re going to reframe this subject of thanksgiving by looking at the book of Ephesians.”

2013 Session 34: Works and Grace

In today’s session, Dr. Nunnally takes up an issue that can be confusing.  We are saved by grace. Salvation is a gift from God, and not a status we earn through good behavior, performance of a ritual or mandated task. And while most Christians understand that our gift from God is not something we’ve earned, we are expected to serve God through our works. Whether feeding the poor, attending the sick or pursuing justice, our salvation directly links to tangible work. “How can we perform deep covenantal responsibilities, and yet reconcile those responsibilities to the notion: my yoke is easy and my burden is light?”
