2015 Session 44: Covenantal Betrayal

Dr. Nunnally directs our attention to Israel’s pending exile (587 BCE). Jeremiah elaborates on Israel’s shame and covenantal disobedience. God’s expectations have been clearly understood. “If you disobey, I’ll withheld the rain. If you obey, I’ll send the rain.” Betray the covenant and “exile” is the result.

2015 Session 43: Disciplining Love

In today’s session, Dr. Nunnally reminds us that through God’s disciplining care we see His love for us. “We can make problems for ourselves, but we can’t fix them.” Fortunately, God can, and the fix begins with correction.

2015 Session 39: Jeremiah Rated ®

In this session, Dr. Nunnally directs our attention to a class of sexual imagery featured prominently in the Bible. From the “harlotry” of Israel (Jeremiah 2:20), to the “bride adorned for her husband” (Revelation 21:2), holy scripture makes inferential comparisons that make us uncomfortable: strong language, strong meaning. There can be little doubt that the Heavenly Father sees our tendencies to waywardness in stark terms.

Jeremiah 2:20; 3:1-2 17:2; Ezekiel 16: 2; 23:1-27,, 40-49; Kings 23:10; Matthew 25:1-13; Hosea 1::2; 2:2-3; 4:11-15

2015 Session 38: God Forgives – We Repent

Today’s class focuses on reaping and sowing, God ordained patterns that can be observed in farming, as well as the making of lifestyle choices. As we examine our lives, the good and bad that we’ve done, it’s vital to remember:  “God is always willing to forgive, if we are willing to repent.”

Galatians 5; 6, Jeremiah 2: 18-20; Hebrews 6:4; Numbers 15; Isaiah 1:4, 11; Psalms 51; Matthew 6:14; Revelation

2015 Session 37: Nabal-Abigal-David

Substituting for Dr. Nunnally, Dr. Fred Haltom directs our study of the encounter between David and Abigail, and David’s threatened retribution against her husband, Nabal. Abigail helped David get past the temptation for revenge, and “blood guilt.”
